Good to know

I got a letter from the CRA. Is it an audit?

Usually not. Most letters are reviews asking you to support an amount on your return, such as a deduction or a credit. Reply by the date in the letter: if you don't, the CRA may disallow the amount.

I disagree with my assessment. What can I do?

File a notice of objection. Companies have 90 days from the date of the notice of assessment. Individuals have until 1 year after the filing deadline, or 90 days after the notice, whichever is later.

I made a mistake on a past return.

You can ask the CRA to correct it, generally for any of the last 10 years (see personal tax). If the correction means you owe more, it's generally better to fix it before the CRA finds it.

Can you talk to the CRA for me?

Yes. Once you authorize us as your representative, we can speak and write to the CRA about your file.
