Good to know
Does a home I own abroad count?
Not if it's mainly for personal use, such as a home you or your family live in. A property you rent out does count.
How is the $100,000 measured?
By the total cost of all your specified foreign property, not its market value. If the total was over $100,000 at any time in the year, you file.
Which foreign companies need a T1134?
Generally, a company outside Canada in which you own at least 1%, and at least 10% together with related people.
What if I didn't file in past years?
Tell us what you own and since when, and we'll go through the options with you. Filing before the CRA asks is generally better than waiting.
